I came to firefighting as a second, third, or fourth career….take your pick. I’ve ridden and been assigned to a couple engines, a couple trucks, and now a heavy rescue. After nine years as a firefighter I have learned that the most pressing issue we face is Mental Health. We, as a fire service, must open this Pandora’s Box of mental health. If we don’t address the issues we will continue to bury Brothers and Sisters who take their own lives.
